Understanding Illegal Gun Market Characteristics and Dynamics in New York City
Funding Agency: City of New York
Principal Investigator: Dr. Rod K. Brunson
The Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice (Rutgers) will conduct an applied research project to understand the operation of underground gun markets, especially those transactions that arm the most dangerous people, in New York City. The resulting detailed description of the pathways through which criminals obtain firearms will be useful in setting prosecution and enforcement priorities as well as considering new programs, policies, and legislation that would be potentially useful in restricting the channels by which criminals become armed.
