PICS: Art and Justice in Dialogue Inspires Students

On October 6, the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice and Paul Robeson Galleries Public Programs hosted the first in our Art and Justice in Dialogue Event Series — featuring the current gallery ACCESS DENIED: Health, COVID-19, and Incarceration.

Over 50 attended including many students to hear remarks from SCJ Dean Nancy La Vigne, Director and Chief Curator Anonda Bell, Exhibition Curator Kristen Evangelista, AFSC Prison Watch Program Director Bonnie Kerness and Featured Artist Ojore Lutalo. SCJ Professor Ebony Ruhland moderated a discussion, “Art as Witness,” with Lutalo and SCJ faculty members Colleen Berryessa and Valerio Bacak, who have conducted research on the experience of incarceration during COVID.

The exhibition is open to the public weekdays during business hours through the fall semester. Visit the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice, 123 Washington Street, 5th Floor, Newark.
