READ: Report Published by Inter-American Development Bank Features SCJ Work

Rutgers School of Criminal Justice (SCJ) professor, Dr. Andres Rengifo, shares the publication of a new report by the Inter-American Development Bank featuring collaborative work between IDB and SCJ that he led in 2022-2023, as well as chapter contributions from two of SJC’s own (Valerio Bacak, faculty, and Alvaro Pretel, new PhD student).

The report, currently just in Spanish, was launched in Buenos Aires at an IDB regional summit earlier this month.

SCJ assisted IDB to develop an RFP and related post-award technical guidance for scholars in the Americas interested in using IDB’s unique dataset of 10,000+ surveys of people in prisons across 10 countries in Latin America. To frame this work, SCJ first hosted a conference in our Newark campus in 2022 featuring prison authorities and leaders of ministries of Justice/Public Safety from countries such as Chile, Paraguay, Costa Rica, and Uruguay, and then wrote the actual RFP, reviewed applications, made award recommendations, and followed up with IDB-selected awardees.

Nearly 70 people applied for this solicitation. The report just published features the work that resulted from these individual efforts.
