Savage Named Fellow with Black & Brown Collective

Our own Brielle Savage has been named a Fellow with the Black & Brown Collective for Community Solutions to Gun Violence! This honor was bestowed upon her today at the B&BC Training and Mentorship Launch Event at the University of Chicago.

Brielle is a PhD candidate at the Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice and a doctoral fellow at the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center. Her research focuses on the lived experiences of Black homicide survivors, examining how they define justice, navigate the criminal legal system, and cope with loss in the aftermath of gun violence. Brielle brings a unique perspective shaped by her work with justice-impacted families, consulting with community-based organizations, and her leadership in initiatives addressing youth violence. She is a Ruth D. Peterson Fellow with the American Society of Criminology and an inaugural BRIDGS Scholar with the Center for the Study of Guns in Society at Arizona State University. Brielle’s research and service are deeply informed by her commitment to bridging research and practice, with a focus on healing, racial justice, survivor advocacy, and translating research into meaningful policy change for communities most affected by gun violence.

The Black & Brown Collective for Community Solutions to Gun Violence is a Black and Brown-led collective of multi-disciplinary researchers driven by a desire to improve the efficacy of research, policy, and practice that addresses safety and well-being in communities directly affected by violence. Its mission is to enhance safety and wellness in communities throughout the US, particularly in the Black and Brown communities that have been disproportionately impacted by gun violence, by engaging in and promoting rigorous, culturally-responsive, community-engaged, and equitable research.

Congratulations, Brielle!
