Veysey Named Recipient of ASC’s Top Teaching Award
Congratulations to Rutgers School of Criminal Justice Professor and Rutgers-Newark Interim Provost Dr. Bonita Veysey! Dr. Veysey has been named recipient of the 2024 Teaching Award presented by the American Society of Criminology.
The Teaching Award (established in 2008) is given to recognize excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching over the span of an academic career. This award identifies and rewards teaching excellence that has been demonstrated by individuals either (a) at one educational institution where the nominee is recognized and celebrated as a master teacher of criminology/criminal justice; or, (b) at a regional or national level as a result of that individual’s sustained efforts to advance criminological/criminal justice education.
Nominated by SCJ colleague and professor Dr. Michael Ostermann, Veysey will be honored at the ASC Annual Meeting in San Francisco this November.
In his nomination of Dr. Veysey, Dr. Ostermann wrote –
“Dr. Veysey has shown a deep and long-standing dedication to teaching at all levels during her time at the Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice (SCJ). She has demonstrated excellence at teaching undergraduate-, masters-, and doctoral-level students as well as developing new university-level resources and an increased focus on the pedagogical acumen of faculty through her leadership roles in the Chancellor’s Office and at the Rutgers University P3 Collaboratory for Pedagogy, Professional Development, and Publicly-Engaged Scholarship. Through her continued efforts, Bonnie has had meaningful and positive impacts upon the learning experiences of her students, and has enriched the career trajectories of countless individuals across the academy. She epitomizes what it means to be a master teacher and pedagogical leader in the fields of criminology and criminal justice.”
