Bio

Daniely Reis is a Ph.D candidate in Sociology. She has professional experience as Director of Affirmative Action Policies for the Dean of Student Affairs at the Federal University of Minas Gerais- Brazil (2018-2023).

As a researcher, she focuses on the social processes by which different groups are perceived, classified, and treated in the criminal justice system and how these differences affect judicial decisions, potentially creating or maintaining inequalities. Her current research project explores several aspects of this topic, including: i) how racial identification based on police perceptions frames judicial treatment and pretrial detention; ii) the methodological implications of using different dimensions of race (self-classification and observed race) for crime statistics.
